Gundogs were bred to work alongside humans with purpose, focus, and incredible instinct, no matter if you want to train for field or fun, channeling instincts is invaluable
Essex Gundog Training – Private Gundog sessions
For Field & Fun!

Regulation First Model™
Skill-building and instinct work, one session at a time.
Positive, reward-based, choice-based and holistic training.
Private sessions are ideal for guardians who want focused gundog skill work, field preparation, or simply a structured outlet for their dog’s natural instincts. If you’re experiencing behavioural challenges or want deeper, lasting change, one of the Confident Canine® Regulation First Model™ programmes is likely to be the better fit, and I’ll always point you in the right direction.

What can you expect when working with me
These sessions are suitable for both working gundogs preparing for the field and pet gundogs whose instincts benefit from a structured outlet.
For many modern gundogs living primarily as companions, those natural instincts are still very much present but don’t always have a clear direction in everyday life.
Private gundog training provides a constructive way to channel those instincts into something positive, engaging, and deeply fulfilling for both you and your dog.
Together we focus on developing practical gundog skills, strengthening engagement, and helping your dog learn how to use their natural abilities in a structured and rewarding way.

• Dogs who thrive when given purposeful outlets for their natural drives

- Channeling instinct in productive ways
The aim is always to develop a gundog who enjoys working with you and understands how to use their instincts constructively.

sessions and results
Many clients see real, practical progress within a single session, whether that’s a breakthrough in steadiness, a recall that starts to hold under distraction, or simply a clearer picture of where the gaps in the training are and how to address them.
Sessions are £120 and are designed to move you forward from the first time we work together.

What makes these sessions different
These aren’t group classes with a fixed syllabus, and they aren’t general dog training sessions adapted for gundogs.
Every session is built entirely around your dog, their breed, their instincts, their stage of training, and your specific goals.
Whether you’re preparing for working tests, building steadiness and marking skills, working through a particular challenge in the field, or simply looking to give your gundog a meaningful outlet for their natural drives, the session is shaped around what you actually need.
That means the time is spent on what matters to you and your dog, not on what a programme says should come next.
When behavioural support may be more appropriate
If you are experiencing more complex challenges such as extreme overwhelm outdoors, loss of connection, reactivity, or behaviour that feels difficult to manage day to day, behavioural support or one of the Confident Canine programmes may be the more appropriate starting point.
Those options focus specifically on behavioural change and regulation rather than skill training.

A gundog’s instincts were never the problem.
They were simply waiting for a purpose.
